General
Well Properties
The General area of the Well Properties is used to create a new Well, providing a unique name for the Well and lock the Well properties dialog. A Well is a surface location hosting one or more Wellbores.
Special Fields and Functions
Legal Well Name
The Legal Well Name field is used to identify the Wells name, issued by the regulatory agency for the area. In OpenWells Classic, this name when selected appears in the Well Explorer Tree (see the Tree Properties Command topic).
Common Well Name
The Common Well Name is an abbreviated well name usually associated with the Legal Well name used by the Company to identify the well for day-to-day reference. In OpenWells Classic, this name when selected appears in the Well Explorer Tree (see the Tree Properties Command topic).
Unique Well Identifier (UWI)
The Unique Well Identifier field is populated based on the Location Description defined as "Primary" in the Location Description area. The Unique Well Identifier is a coded Well name based on the location of the Well. The identification system and codes vary from region to region. In OpenWells Classic, this identifier when selected appears in the Well Explorer Tree (see the Tree Properties Command topic).
API (American Petroleum Institute) Number
The entire API number can be entered in the Well Properties or it can be entered as follows:
the first 10 digits of the API Number define the Well location (i.e., state code, country code and Unique Well Identifier), see API Number
the eleventh and twelfth digits represent the Sidetrack code, (see Wellbore Properties General, API Suffix Number)
the thirteenth and fourteenth digits represent the Event Sequence (see Completion Properties, General, Event Sequence).
Tight Group
Tight Groups are defined and assigned to users in the EDM™ Security plug-in of the EDM Administration utility. If a user is not a member of the Tight Group assigned to the Well, then the Well and its Wellbore will not be visible to the user in the application.
Note: By default, tight access is set to NULL allowing all users access to the Project, Site and Well data.
MAASP Fields
The MAASP fields record Maximum Allowable Annular Surface Pressure for the Well.
The Well Properties Status area also offers companies the option of recording a history of changing MAASP values over the life cycle of the Well. The MAASP fields, in the Status tab, use a different EDM™ table (CD_WELL_MAASP) than the old fields (CD_WELL) appearing in the General tab. It is recommended that one of these data entry areas is hidden or made read-only by the EDM Administrator as not to confuse users.
Unit System Area
This is the default display unit system for the Well data set. When a Well or one of its Wellbores is opened, the display unit system will automatically change to the Default Display Unit System selected in this picklist.
Note: Unit Systems are defined in Unit Systems Editor.
Locked Checkbox
The Locked checkbox prevents editing or deletion of the Well data. If this checkbox is activated and a Lock Data password has been specified the password must be entered before the Well data can be unlocked. Passwords are set in the Company Properties dialog.
For more information, see the Data Locking topic.
Project Data Locked Checkbox
The Project Data Locked checkbox is used to lock Well data entry fields that have been configured as Project Locked data. checkbox is not available until the Locked checkbox is activated.
This feature is only available when the ProjectLocking system setting has been set to true in the EDM Administration Utility For more information see the Project Data Locking topic.
