Project Data Locking
OpenWells® Software Features
Project Data Locking allows the OpenWells software implementation teams to configure data fields to ignore the primary data lock and remain editable until an alternate Project-level data lock is set. This alternate lock allows users to make changes to data items when the data item's Well Explorer node or Report has been locked. EDM™ data entry fields in the Project, Site, Well, Wellbore, Event, Completions nodes of the Well Explorer and Report data entry forms can be configured as "Project Locked" data. Project Locked data is not affected by the primary Data Locking Locked check box in the Properties dialog. This architecture enables operation engineers to send Well Explorer information out to the field and restrict updates while still enabling certain fields to be edited (for example, Well Spud Date, Event Start Date, etc.)
Once the Locked check box has been activated the Project Data Locked check box becomes available. Activating this check box additionally locks "Project Locked" entry fields.

How Project Data Locking Works
Project Data Locking allows users to configure data as "Project Locked" data. When basic Data Locking is applied to a Well Explorer node or Report the "Project Locked" data fields will still be available for editing. Project Data Locking can be implemented in several ways:
All nodes including and below the Project level ( Site, Well, Wellbore, Event, Contractor) can be separately Project Locked, thus restricting edit access to the data contained within the locked nodes.
Reports can be Project Locked (either in the Reports List or from within the report itself using the File > Properties menu path) restricting edit access to the Report contents.
Individual data items within the Project, Site, Well, Wellbore, Event, Contractor, and Report levels can be configured as "Project Locked" data allowing users access to the data items when the primary Data Lock is applied.
To implement Project Data Locking, passwords must be set in the Project Properties dialog box. If passwords are not set, data objects can be unlocked by any user.
The Project Data Lock Password button, available in the Project Properties dialog, is used to configure passwords for Project Locking. A Project Locking password works independently from the Data Locking password defined in the Company Properties dialog.
Note: As with Data Locking, in Project Locking, all Well Explorer levels are locked independently. This means that locks do not cascade. Therefore, a Well can be locked but this does not lock all of the data below the Well in the hierarchy.
Configuring Project Data Locking
The following steps need to be performed to implement Project Data Locking:
Set the ProjectLocking System Setting to True
Launch the EDM Administration Utility from the Tools > EDM Administration Utility command.
Login to the database.
Select the EDM System Settings node in the Administration tree.
Set the ProjectLocking system setting's value to TRUE.
Click the Save () button.
Restart OpenWells.
Setting the Project Data Locking Password
To set the Project Data Locking password:
Open Project Properties using the menu path: File > Properties.
The Project Properties window appears. Click the Project Data Lock Password button in the General tab.
The Change Data Lock Password dialog box appears.
If it is a new password, only the New Password and Confirm Password fields will be available. If the password is being changed, the Old Password field will also be available.
This password will then be required if a user wants to deactivate the Project Data Locked check box in the Project Properties window and make changes.
Once the password is set, activate the Locked check box to lock the Project properties and prevent unauthorized changes to data. "Project Locked" data will be still available for editing. Activate the Project Data Locked check box to lock "Project Locked" data. No data on the Properties dialog is available for editing.
"Project Locked" data is configured in the OpenWells Data Dictionary. To configure a data entry field to be controlled by Project Locking:
Open the Properties dialog or Report containing the data entry field.
Select the field and press F7. The Data Dictionary dialog opens to the General tab.
Select the Project Data Lock check box.
Click OK to close the Data Dictionary.
Repeat these steps to configure other data entry fields to "Project Locked" data.
To apply Project Data Locking to a Well Explorer node or report:
Open the Properties dialog for the Well Explorer node or report containing the Project Locked data.
Select the Locked check box to lock the Properties dialog or report's data. The data items configured as "Project Locked" data are still editable.
To lock all data, select the Project Data Lock check box.
To unlock a Well Explorer node or report:
Open the node or report's Properties dialog.
Deactivate the Project Data Lock check box.
A dialog appears prompting for a password if one has been defined.
Enter the Project Data Locked password.
Click OK.
The Project Lock data can now be edited or deleted.
