Sidetracks

Well Planning Report

The Sidetracks section uses a spreadsheet to define one or more wellbores planned in the Well Planning report. Wellbores and Designs created in the Well Planning report will also be available to other engineering applications. A Design can only be assigned to one sidetrack.

Sidetrack specific information can be entered in the following sections:

Terminology

Primary Design

The Design associated to the Well Planning report when it was created.

Sidetrack Design

Designs parented by the Primary Design or other Sidetrack Designs.

Multi-Lateral Design

A Primary or Sidetrack Design parenting two or more Designs each planned to have different bottom hole locations.

SAM Column

The Simultaneous Activity Monitor (SAM) icon appears in the SAM column ( ) of the Sidetracks spreadsheet, when the Design is opened in another application or by another user.

Add a Design Button

Use the Add a New Design button to create a new Sidetrack or Multi-Lateral Design associated to an existing wellbore in the sidetracks spreadsheet.

Click the Add a New Design button.
Select the Wellbore to associated the new Design to and click OK.

The Create a new Design dialog appears.

In the Details area enter the Design name, Version and select a Phase from the picklist.
Select the Depth Reference Information for the Design from the Datum picklist.
Click OK.

Create a Sidetrack

Click the Add Row ( ) button to add a row to the Sidetracks spreadsheet.

The Add Sidetrack/Multi-lateral Wizard appears.

Click Next.
Select a wellbore or select the <create new wellbore> from the list of available wellbores and click Next.
If you chose to create a new Wellbore:

Enter the Common and Legal Name for the wellbore
If applicable, select the Parent Wellbore from the picklist. The picklist contains a list of wellbores previously created in the Sidetracks section.
Enter a sidetrack number.
Enter the kickoff measured depth
Select the wellbore Phase from the picklist.
Select the new wellbore from the list of available wellbores and click Next.

Select an associated Sidetrack or Multi-Lateral Design from the list or click Create New... button to create a new Sidetrack or Multi-Lateral Design.
If you choose to create a new Design:
1. To create a new Design, click the Create New... button.
The Create a new Design dialog appears.
1. In the Details area enter the Design name, Version and select a Phase from the picklist.
2. Select the Depth Reference Information for the Design from the Datum picklist.
3. Click OK.

Click Finish.
A new row is added to the Sidetracks spreadsheet.
The Design associated to the new wellbore can be changed at any time using the Design Name picklist.
