Import

File > WITSML > Import

The WITSML Import command is used to selectively transfer business objects from another application into the EDM™ database using an XML  transfer file. WITSML allows the user to select which business object contained in the file is imported into the EDM database.

The following WITSML business objects can be imported to the EDM™ database:

Important Note: Each Stimulation should only be imported once per report. Importing more than once will create duplicate data in the EDM™ database.  

To import a business object to a Wellbore

  1. Open the WITSML command using one of the following methods:  

Select the wellbore_icon.gif Wellbore in the Well Explorer tree and follow the menu path, File > WITSML > Export

Right-click on wellbore_icon.gif Wellbore in the Well Explorer tree and select,  WITSML > Export

The WITSML Objects dialog appears.

  1. Navigate to and select the WITSML XML export file.  

  2. Click Open.

The contents of object is displayed on the right side of the dialog, listing each attribute of the Object and the Attribute's value.

  1. Select the check box for each object to be imported. Selected Attributes are highlighted.

  2. Click the Import button.

The WITSML Import dialog appears with a message displaying the success or failure of the object import.

  1. Click OK.

To import Trajectory and Fluids business objects to a Daily Operations report

  1. Open the WITSML command using one of the following methods:  

Select the Daily Operations report in the Report List or open the report and follow the menu path, File > WITSML > Import

Right-click on Daily Operations report in the Report List and select WITSML > Import

The Select Item for WITSML Import dialog appears.

  1. Select one of the items appearing in the dialog, by selecting its check box.

  2. Click OK.

The WITSML Objects dialog appears.

  1. Navigate to and select the WITSML XML export file.  

  2. Click Open.

The contents of object is displayed on the right side of the dialog, listing each attribute of the Object and the Attribute's value.

  1. Select the check box for each object to be imported. Selected Attributes are highlighted.

  2. Click the Import button.

The WITSML Import dialog appears with a message displaying the success or failure of the object import.

  1. Click OK.

To import Stimulations business objects to a Stimulations report (WITSML 1.3.1 only)

  1. Obtain the XML files generated by the Halliburton SUMMIT™ application.

  2. Log into the OpenWells® application.

  3. Create a Stimulation Report or open an existing Stimulations report where the data will be imported.

Stimulations Report Note: A WITSML import can be performed on the Stimulations report in Form View or WYSIWYG view.

  1. Open the WITSML command using one of the following methods:  

Select the Stimulations report in the Report List or open the report and follow the menu path, File > WITSML > Import

Right-click on Stimulations report in the Report List and select WITSML > Import

The WITSML Objects dialog appears.

  1. Navigate to and select the WITSML XML export file.  

  2. Click Open.

The contents of object is displayed on the right side of the dialog, listing each attribute of the Object and the Attribute's value.

  1. Select the check box for each object to be imported. Selected Attributes are highlighted.

  2. Click the Import button.

OpenWells prompts the users to select the WITSML Well file to provide the datum information.

  1. Select the WITSML Well file and click Select or click Cancel to use the EDM default datum elevation.

CAUTION IMPORTANT Depth Reference Information:

If data already exists in the Stimulations report, a dialog appears asking if the imported data should be appended to the report or if it should replace the existing data.

  1. Click the Replace button to add the contents of the WITSML file to the report and delete the existing data.

OR

Click the Append button to append the WITSML data to the existing Stimulations data, except for the data appearing in the General section of the report. This data will be updated or overwritten.

The Stimulations data is imported from the XML file into the Stimulations Report. A table of WITSML Schema to EDM Schema mappings is outline in the following section.
