Logging into the EDM™ Database

The EDM Database

The Login dialog appears when one of the Engineer' s Desktop™ applications is started.

This dialog is used to select the EDM ODBC data source name and to enter a user id and password.

To log in:

  1. From the Data Source picklist, select the EDM Data Source (DSN) to be used.

Note: If a database icon  appears before the data source name it indicates that the data source  has been successfully logged into by an Engineer's Desktop application previously.

  1. Enter your user name in the User field. (This field will default to the name entered previously.)

  2. Enter your password in the Password field.

  3. Click OK. The application launches, logged into the database.

To login using Windows Authentication:

  1. Select the Data Source.

  2. Activate the Use Windows Authentication check box. The EDM User and Password fields are greyed out.

Windows Authentication Note: Windows Authentication will only work for Windows Network users that have been configured in the EDM Database and for ODBC Data Sources configured to use Windows Authentication. For more information on using Windows Authentication see the EDM Administration Utility on-line help.

  1. Click OK. The current Windows network user is logged into the EDM database and the application launches.

If the login is unsuccessful the following message will be displayed, "The information entered is not valid for connecting to the selected data source."

The application will terminate after 20 failed attempts to login.

Note: Once logged into the EDM database, you may open another EDM application without being prompted to log in again. Subsequent applications use the same login information during start up.
