Working with Rigs

Well Explorer > Contractor Tab

The Rigs node is used to define properties of Rigs and/or Work Units operated by a Contractor. A Rig is used to drill or service a wellbore.

Note: A Rig must have unique name.

A work unit is a completion or well services rig that is used to perform remedial operations on a well. Typically work units are not capable of drilling and may include wireline rigs, workover rigs, and other vehicles or equipment that access the wellbore. Each Rig has a set of equipment defined for it. These equipment are used in the Daily Operations data entry form to define operations for them. Each Rig also has Operations defined for it, which represents a contract to operate one or more Wells.

Right-click Menu

In the Well Explorer, right click on the rig node to display the following choices:

New Rig Operation…

Use this command to create a new Rig Operation for this Rig. When you choose this command, the Rig Operation Properties dialog appears.

New Attachment

Use this command to access the Attachment Properties dialog box. From this dialog box an attachment can be added to the Rig. The attachment which will be displayed in the Associated Data Viewer located below the Well Explorer tree.

Copy

Use this command to copy the selected Rig from the Well Explorer and save it to the Clipboard. This command is disabled if nothing has been selected.

Paste

Use this command to paste (insert) the contents of the Clipboard at the location currently selected in the Well Explorer. In order for this function to be effective, you must have copied (saved) Rig data to the Clipboard. The Rig and all levels below it in the hierarchy will be pasted to the new selected location.

Rename

Use this command to rename the Rig in the database. Once the command is selected the Rig will appear in an edit box with the cursor available. Change the name of the Rig and press Enter.

Delete

Use this command to remove the selected Rig from the database. The following message will appear, "Are you sure you want to delete the rig"<rig name>"? Click Yes to delete the Rig and all its associated data or click No to cancel the operation.

Import...

This command is not available in the right click menu for a Rig.

Export...

This command is not available in the right click menu for a Rig.

Properties...

Use this command to view/edit the properties for the selected Rig. The Rig Properties dialog box appears.

Expand All

Expand all levels below the Rig level.

Collapse All

Collapse all levels below the Rig level.
