Hole Sections Section
Daily Operations Report
A hole section is a section of a wellbore (not a side track) categorized by the bit size used to drill the wellbore (e.g., 12-1/4" hole section, 8-1/2" hole section).
The Hole Sections section:
defines the wellbore geometry as drilled during construction of a well
records Drilling and Casing phase data used to derive lengths for Technical Limit performance rate calculations
defines the annular details of the wellbore, used in calculating fluid volumes
records "Open Hole" intervals used to draw the wellbore schematics in the following applications: OpenWells®, PROFILE™ and iWellFile™
records hole section data used in creating an "OpenWells Case" in WELLPLAN™ software
parents FIT/LOT (Leak Off Test section) data entry, without a hole section in OpenWells FIT/LOT data cannot be entered.
A new hole section is generally added to the Daily Operations report for each size drilled during well construction.
When a hole section is entered in OpenWells software it will continue to appear in each subsequent Daily Operations report for the Wellbore/Sidetrack and any Wellbores it parents.
Hole sections can be recorded in this area in two ways, either one of which may be available depending on how the report was configured.
The 30 second hole section - This method allows users to quickly enter a basic hole section in minimal time.
The detailed hole section - This method includes a detailed recording of a hole section in addition to the details of the annulus.
For information on entering hole sections using these methods see Entering a 30 Second Hole Section and Entering a Detailed Hole Section.
