Offshore Well Datum Examples
Datums
This topic illustrates the following 6 cases where Datums are created in OpenWells® software for Offshore Wells (Fixed and Mobile Platforms):
For a list of examples of Land Wells see the Land topic.
The following example is an Offshore Platform where:
the System Datum is Mean Sea Level (MSL)
the Reference Datum Level (RDL) is Rotary Kelly Bushing (RKB)
The following example is an Offshore Platform or Jackup where:
the System Datum is Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT), which is 1.5m above Mean Sea Level (MSL) and
the Reference Datum Level (RDL) is Rotary Kelly Bushing (RKB)
The following example is an Subsea Well where:
the System Datum is Mean Sea Level (MSL)
the Reference Datum Level (RDL) is Rotary Kelly Bushing (RKB)
The following example is an Subsea Well where:
the System Datum is Lowest Astronomical Tide, which is 1.5m below Mean Sea Level (MSL) and
the Reference Datum Level (RDL) is Rotary Kelly Bushing (RKB)
The following example is an Subsea Well where:
the System Datum is Mean Sea Level (MSL) and
the Reference Datum Level (RDL) is Mudline
