Transfer Files (.XML)
Well Explorer
Transfer files are XML-format files that contain data for import to and export from the EDM™ database. Transfer files can be imported and/or exported at most hierarchical levels, including Database level, Catalog level, Company level, etc.
For convenience, transfer files containing the following types of data have the following file extensions:
Transfer files (*.edm.xml)
This type of transfer file contains data for the Well Explorer hierarchy node exported. It also contains the node's data. The parent data is included for populating receiving EDM databases where it is not already present.
Note: Historical EDM transfer files prior to the 2003.16.0 release used the .xml file extension only.
Catalog Transfer files (*.cat.xml)
This type of transfer file contains data for a specific catalog, such as a custom Bit catalog.
Library Transfer files (*.lib.xml)
This type of transfer file is used to transfer the contents of the library well used to store data templates (e.g., strings, fluids, centrifuges). The file contains top-level tables, including strings, fluids, grades, materials, temperature deration schedules, lithologies, zones, stratigraphic units, assemblies, BHAs, events, service classes, etc.
Workspace Transfer files (*.ws.xml)
(WELLPLAN™ software only) This type of transfer file contains layout information data for a specific workspace.
Tubular Transfer files (*.tub.xml)
This type of transfer file contains tubular properties data.
Rig Transfer files (*.rig.xml)
This type of transfer file contains data for contractors and rigs.
What you can import/export depends on the hierarchical level at which you are working. For example, if you are on the Catalog node, only *.cat.xml transfer files can be imported. EDM data transfer files are imported from the database node only.
