Flaring

Daily Operations Report > Under Balanced/Air Drilling

The Flaring spreadsheet enables the rig site supervisor to describe flares that occur during drilling. Prior to drilling, a flare pit is constructed adjacent to the rig site. During drilling, a gas burner is lit on the flare stack to ignite any combustible gases which are produced while the well is being circulated

Click the Add Row (addrow.gif) button to add a row to the spreadsheet to record the following data for each flare occurrence during the drilling operation.

MD Top and MD Base

Enter the estimated Measured Depth (MD) Top and MD Base for the flaring operation to estimate the hole interval from where the gas may have originated.

Duration

Enter the duration of the flare.

Flare Type

Select the Type of Flare from the picklist options: Connection, Survey, Trip, or Continuous.

Length

Enter the horizontal (short distance) distance of the flare over the pit. In extreme cases, the flare can extend past the pit and ignite equipment or property so occurrences need to be described for future well site requirements.

Comments

Record any additional details regarding the flare.
