Pump Operations Section

Daily Operations Report

Use the Pump Operations section to record operating information for the pumps and for  the current Daily Operations report.

Each equipment operations section in the Daily Operations report appears as a multi-level spreadsheet. The highest level of the spreadsheet is automatically populated when a Rig is associated to an Event. Each individual Rig equipment is displayed depending on their installation and removal dates.

The assoc_pump.gif button displays the Pump Properties dialog which is used to create a new pump. The new pump information populates the Pump Operations spreadsheet and adds it to the associated rig in the Contractors tab. If this button is not available, verify that a Rig operation has been associated with the Event.

Pumps can also be added to the Rig Operation using the File > New command. See the New Command topic for more information.

The assoc_rig.gif button enables the user to associate a Rig to the Event. This button is only available when a Rig is not currently associated to the Event. For more information, see the Associate Rig to Daily Wizard topic.

Click the addchldrow.gif button to add a sub-spreadsheet row for the selected pump in order to record information about the equipment operation.

Time

The Time column uses a time entry format. Click the hour, minute (use the up and down arrow keys to record the hours and minutes).

Measured Depth (MD)

The MD is populated from today's MD field recorded in the General section of the Daily Operations report.

Output

The Output flow rate value is calculated as follows:

If the pump is single acting (i.e., the Double Acting check box is not selected in the Pump properties)

Then

Output = (Cylinder Volume) * Efficiency * SPM * Number of Cylinders

where

Cylinder Volume = pi *Liner ID2 / 4) * Stroke

If the pump is double acting (i.e., the Double Acting check box is selected in the Pump properties)

Then

Output = (Cylinder Volume + (Cylinder Volume - Rod Volume) * Efficiency * SPM * Number of Cylinders

where

Cylinder Volume = pi *Liner ID2 / 4) * Stroke

Rod Volume = (pi * Rod OD2 / 4) * Stroke Efficiency

Record the pump hydraulic efficiency used to calculate pump output.

Notes:

Type

Enter the type of pump operation for which the parameters were recorded: Drilling. Reaming, Circulating, Slow Pump (for SCR).

Note: Using the last operation entered for each pump, the total Output value is pushed to the Flow Rate in the Bit Operations tab for all types excluding the Slow Pump code.

For example, in Pump Operations you have three pumps as follows:

Pump #1

Pump Operation #1 – Slow Pump – Output = 137

Pump Operation #2 – Drilling - Output = 267

Pump #2

Pump Operation #1 – Slow Pump – Output = 125

Pump Operation #2 – Slow Pump- Output = 110

Pump #3

Pump Operation #1 – Slow Pump – Output = 132

Pump Operation #2 – Drilling - Output = 256

Pump Operation #3 – Circulating - Output = 242

This will update the Bit Operation/' Flow Rate to 509 (last Pump Operation of Pump #1 plus last Pumps Operation of Pumps # 3).

This feature is controlled by the EDM System Setting SlowPumpCode.

Pressure

Enter the pressure recorded for the pump at the specified SPM.

SPM

Record the speed of the pump for the operation.

Liner Size

Record the size of the liner installed in the pump. If the liner was changed during the day, remember to change the liner size if necessary for the appropriate pump.

Stroke Displacement

This value is calculated from the pump stroke length, liner size and efficiency.

Associated Rig Equipment:

If equipment does not appear in the spreadsheet, verify that a Rig operation has been associated with the Event.

To verify a Rig Operation association, in the Wells tab in the Well Explorer, right-click on the Event and follow the menu path: Associate > Rig Operation... If a Rig Operation has already been associated with the Event, it will be identified in the Associate Rig Operation to Event dialog.

If the Event is associated with a Rig Operation and no equipment appears in the operation sections of the Daily Operations report, verify that equipment exists for the Rig by reviewing the Rig in the Contractors tab of the Well Explorer. Additionally, check that equipment install dates occur before the Daily Operations report date. If an equipment removal date has been entered, ensure that it occurs after the Daily Operations report date. Equipment not installed on the report date is not displayed.
