Fluid Volumes Tab

Daily Operations Report > Fluid Management Section

The Fluid Volumes tab is used to record information on string volumes, annular volumes, and pit volumes. Data is entered in spreadsheets format.

For information on using spreadsheets, see the Spreadsheets topic.

Annular Volumes

This area contains a spreadsheet that is used to record fluid volumes in the annulus.

Click Autopopulate Annular Volumes to pull the information from the current Annular Details spreadsheet and Drillstrings to populate a list of Annular sections along with their calculated volumes.

An annular section is defined for each unique combination of Drillstring OD and adjacent hole section effective diameter or casing inside diameter.

This volume is calculated using the following formula:

Volume for each Annular Section = SUM ( π * (Casing or Hole Section ID - String OD)2 /4 * Length)

where:

For the open hole section or cased section see Annulus_Details for information on where these values are entered.

The Drillstring Length is calculated by adding the lengths for each Component found in the Drillstrings > Components tab of the current Daily Operations report.

BBLS per linear ft = (D2 - d2) * 0.0009714 = X

Total BBLs = X * length

D = diameter of hole, inches

d = outside diameter of casing, inches

Cubic meter per meter = (D2 - d2) / 1,273,000 = X

Total Cubic meter  = X * length

D = diameter of hole, millimeters

d = outside diameter of casing, millimeters

The Sum of all entered or calculated Annular Volumes entered is calculated in the Total Annular Volume field.

String Volumes

This area contains a spreadsheet used to record each section of the active drillstring.

Add a new row for each drillstring component.

Or

Click Autopopulate String Volumes to pull the information from the current Daily > Drillstrings > Components tab and populate a list of assembly components in the String Volumes spreadsheet along with its calculated volume.

This volume is calculated using the following formula:

Total String Volume = SUM ( π * Component ID2 /4 * Length) for each constant length of component diameter

The Component ID is taken from the Body ID field and the Component Length is taken from the Length field of the Drillstrings Component spreadsheet. The calculation is as follows:

BBLs per linear ft = D2  * 0.0009714 = X

Total BBLs = X * length

D = diameter, inches

Cubic meters per linear meter = D2 / 1,273,000 = X

Total Cubic meters =  X * length

D = diameter, millimeters

The Sum of all String Volumes entered is calculated in the Total String Volume field.

Pit Volumes

The Pit Volumes area is used to record fluid volumes in each pit defined for the active Rig (see Pits). This area contains a spreadsheet that is automatically populated with Pits entered for the Rig associated with the Event. Only Pits with installation and removal dates that fall within the Event's date range are displayed in this spreadsheet. Pits will also appear in the list on the Install date and the Removal date.

The addchldrow.gif button is available to add a sub-spreadsheet row in order to capture information about the equipment operation. Data is entered in a multi-level spreadsheet.

Associated Rig Equipment: If equipment does not appear in the spreadsheet, verify that a Rig Operation has been associated with the Event.

To verify Rig Operations association, right-click the Event and follow the menu path: Associate > Rig Operation... If a Rig Operation has already been associated with the Event, it will be identified in the Associate Rig Operation to Event dialog.

If the Event is associated with a Rig Operation and no equipment appears in the operation sections of the Daily Operations report, verify that equipment exists for the Rig by reviewing the Rig in the Contractors tab of the Well Explorer. Additionally, check that equipment installation dates occur before the Daily Operations report date. If an equipment removal date has been entered, ensure that it occurs after the Daily Operations report date. Equipment not installed on the report date is not displayed.

Add New Pit Button

The Add New Pit button can be used to add a pit to the associated Rig Operation. If no Rig Operation has been associated to the Event this button will be greyed out.

Total Pit Volume

The Total Pit Volume field displays the sum of all fluid Volume entered, including inactive pits.

Total Active Pit Volume

The Total Active Pit Volume field displays the total fluid Volume for all active pits.

Choke Line Volume

The Choke Line field records the fluid Volume of the choke line.

Kill Line Volume

The Kill Line Volume  field records the fluid Volume of the kill line.

Total System Volume

This field is a summary of all the fluid Volumes recorded in this tab. It is calculated as follows:

Total System Volume = Total String Volume + Total Annular Volume + Total Active Pit Volume + Choke Line Volume + Kill Line Volume
